As you might know, WhyNot holds office at De Ruimte in Amsterdam Noord. And we always spice up their diner event Ditdit-Dada-Ditdit with some dance & performance art! Next up, on Friday 27 January, we have invited Erik van de Wijdeven. He presents a sketch of his performance 'Notes on self-soothing’. Inspired by personal experiences and the book 'The body keeps the score' by Bessel van der Kolk, a textual installation performance inspired by the impact of traumatic experiences on the body. A minimalistic and clinical-looking light installation offers a sharp but dynamic framework for an absurdist-ritualistic (re)birth process. A penetrating theatrical viewing experience in which we follow a body in the making in an alienating conversation with itself.
Erik van de Wijdeven (1988) is a performance artist and designer based in Amsterdam. In his multidisciplinary practice he often combines scenography/light design and physical performance. His work is informed both by his fascination for creating (light) installations that enhance human presence, as well as his interest in movement, embodiment and improvisation.
